The best screen recorder for Linux has to be this program.

Everyone’s heard of OBS Studio and of course it has its upsides and downsides. It’s a great program for livestreaming and other circumstances where you would want customization to bring viewers in but OBS is kind of slow and lacks in performance.

Searching around the Linux software center for my distro a while ago I found a program called “GPU Screen Recorder which piqued my interest. I tried it out and it wielded very surprising performance that beats OBS.

Checking back on it lately they’ve adopted a kind of ShadowPlay look to it and I’ve come to like it. Below is a demonstration of GPU screen recorder vs OBS in performance while playing tuxkart with the same resolution and fps set for both. OBS underperformed massively on my weak integrated gpu but GPU Screen Recorder did just fine.
